Former reporter.
Former teacher.
Forever baker.

Before I was "the cake lady," I was just the kid tagging along, helping my mom and Granny sell cake slices at the local hair salons and barbershops. People always smiled when they saw us coming.

I baked cookies every month in high school and brought them in to share. They got popular enough to land me on homecoming and prom court. Didn't win either one, but the cookies were undefeated.

I chased stories and tried to make a difference on camera as a journalist. It looked good on paper, I enjoyed my time and made lifelong friends, it just wasn't making me happy.

I became a middle school English teacher. It wasn't everything I'd hoped for, but I got up every morning excited to see those kids, and baking stayed my refuge the whole time.

With a little push from my family, I realized I didn't have to just dream about baking full-time. I could actually do it. So I did.

Now I get to have a hand in your birthday party, your coming out party, your graduation, your wedding, your baby shower, and everything in between. I'm only just getting started, and I hope you'll stick around for a cookie or a slice of cake.

I started baking something new every weekend, just for me. Turned out I was better at it than I realized. First place for chocolate chip cookies, second for apple pie, Georgia National Fair.

When my husband and I were saving for our first home, I sold cakes to the other teachers to help make the down payment happen.
